Shopping in Vietnam
From Track2Asia
If you are looking for modern department stores and big shopping malls, then Vietnam is not the right place. The grand shopping malls you can find in Singapore and Hong Kong have not arrived to Vietnam yet, but recently some modern department shops have started to pop up in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.
If you are looking for handicraft or tailor made clothing, then Vietnam is the shopping paradise you are looking for.
The streets of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are lined with shops, and here you can find incredible bargains on products like lacquer ware, antiques, and tailor made clothing. But before you start shopping, remember one advice: Don't forget to bargain!
Lacquer ware
Production of lacquer ware has long traditions in Vietnam.
Tailor Shops
Ho An is good place for tailor made clothing. Everywhere you go, you will see tailor shops. However, tailor shops can be found in every tourist area. You can have suits, shirts, dresses, jeans, shorts, or anything else, custom made within 24 to 48 hours. One advice is to go to the tailor shop early on your trip so you have time to do adjustments. Often you have to visit the shop a few times before it you get the perfect fit. Another advice is to look at quality of the fabrics. It can be difficult for many travelers to determine the quality, but if someone sells you a suit for too good a price, you can be guaranteed that the quality of the fabrics is not good. Normally more than half the cost of a suit is on fabrics.
