Singapore By Car
From Track2Asia
Driving to Singapore from Malaysia requires a valid Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP). Your car must also be registered in Malaysia. When you reach the borders of Singapore, apply for a VEP at the Land Transport Authority. The VEP is valid for five days and is free. This applies even for weekends and holidays.
Here is a list of LTA and VEP offices:
- VEP Headquarters (10 Sing Ming Drive) 553-5337
- Changi 545-3917
- Woodlands 269-0279
There are also booths at the Changi Ferry Terminal and the Woodlands Checkpoint.
You may also extend your VEP for S$30 a day. Just call the LTA booth (375-7100) or go to designated post offices in Singapore.
Be prepared to pay toll fees ranging from S$1.00 to S$2.50 on the Causeway link (both sides) and Tuas (the Second Link). Toll fees may also be prepaid at some gas stations and post offices.
A tip: Be sure to fill the car up when you are leaving for Malaysia from Singapore. You are not allowed to leave Singapore if your gas tank contains less than three-quarters of its capacity.
