Singapore By Train
From Track2Asia
Another way to go is by train. There are trains plying the route from key cities in the Malaysian western peninsula to Singapore. Key cities include Kuala Lumur and Johor Bahru. The train from Johor Bahru makes four runs everyday, with fares costing around S$3 one way. There are also three daily train trips from Kuala Lumpur (mornings, afternoons and nights). You can opt to get the sleeper compartment, which is more comfortable. One-way fares are S$68 (first class) and S$34 (second class). Call the Malayan Railway (222-5165) for inquiries.
There is also a train from Thailand, which is being run by E&OE Services. This plies the route from Singapore to Bangkok and on to Chiang Mai. This once a week train also passes through Malaysia (via Kuala Lumpur and Butterworth), so you can even drop by Penang. Fares start from S$2,350 (one way) and increases according to the accommodation type and trip lasts for 41 hours.
